The Cambridge AICE program began in Orange County in 2013 at Colonial High School. Currently, OCPS has ten schools that have Cambridge offerings. At this time, the OCPS district offers the Cambridge International General Certification of Secondary Education (IGCSE), known as Pre-AICE, and the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) Diploma Programs.
The expansion of the Cambridge AICE program allows students to achieve the prestigious AICE Diploma which is recognized by well-known universities in the United States as well as internationally. The Cambridge AICE Program is a rigorous academic and accelerated program of study offered solely through the University of Cambridge International Examinations www.cie.org.uk (CIE), a division of the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. The University of Cambridge is consistently ranked as one of the top five academic universities in the world.
The AICE program emphasizes the importance of critical thinking skills and communication in today’s global world. Worldwide, many universities recognize the AICE Diploma for advanced standing at the university level and may award up to 45 hours of college credit for achieving the AICE Diploma. Irene Benfatti, Director of Advanced Studies and Gifted Learners in Collier County, states that “The Cambridge AICE curriculum is academically challenging and provides our students with the competence and confidence in skill areas needed for university study. A student in the AICE program becomes an international learner who will make a positive contribution in our global society.”
