2022- 2023 CAMBRIDGE SUMMER ASSIGNMENT AICE US HISTORY
Cambridge International AS Level History is a flexible and wide-ranging syllabus covering modern history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The syllabus develops lifelong skills including understanding issues and themes within a historical period. The emphasis is again on both historical knowledge and on the skills required for historical research. Learners develop an understanding of cause and effect, continuity and change, similarity and difference, and use historical evidence as part of their studies.
Summer Reading: AICE US History:
READ Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President by Candice Millard
Writing Prompt:
Answer both:
Discuss the accomplishments/character of Garfield and predict how this would have shaped his presidency if he were not assassinated (2-3 paragraphs).
AND
Analyze one of these 4 major people in this story (Roscoe Conkling, Alexander Graham Bell, Charles Guiteau, or Joseph Lister) and identify their overall contribution to this story. How do they impact both Garfield’s role as the president and their respective impacts as individuals? Each of them can be linked to a huge impact in our timeline. You are going to have to identify this through text, and then make big picture connections on your own. (3-4 paragraphs)
If you use any sources outside of the book they must be cited using MLA source formatting. This means a work cited page, and in text citations. Your work will be checked for plagiarism.
In this process, there is to be NO collaboration with other students. Any assistance from the Internet, movies, or secondary sources such as Sparknotes, Cliff Notes, or Wikipedia will be viewed as cheating. In addition, any sources used and not cited will be viewed as plagiarism, and will result in a zero for the assignment. If you have questions about formatting or the assignment itself, please contact: [email protected]
